The most important element of a school leader is character. We seek candidates who exhibit unwavering personal integrity, honesty, courage, humility, and servant-hearted leadership. Professional experience and education are important considerations, of course, but are secondary to possessing the right qualities of leadership. In our experience, the best school leaders have the capacity to handle the demands of the position, strong character to guide prudent decision making, an educated vision for the life and work of a classical school, a hardworking spirit and attitude, and the humility to lead a school based on trust, courage, commitment, accountability, and results.
A master’s degree or higher is preferred, as is experience working in classical education or a related profession. However, a lack of experience may not be disqualifying. In fact, many strong school leaders have found a fulfilling second career in K-12 education after serving in the U.S. Armed Forces or working in corporate executive leadership. The skills honed and experiences gained in those professions often translate well to the world of school leadership.
If you’re looking to engage in fulfilling and challenging work building up the next generation of virtuous citizens, if you desire to lead, and if you share our vision of American Classical Education, we’d love to connect with you.
